Who we are
Mixed, in every sense
Sit in on a Sunday morning and you will find a congregation of mixed ages and mixed nationalities — people who grew up in Northampton alongside people who arrived last year, and people at very different points in faith. Some have been coming for decades. Some are still deciding what they think.
Our Sunday mornings begin with a warm welcome and an invitation to join us in celebrating the good news about Jesus Christ. The music is a mix of traditional organ and a contemporary band, which is a fair summary of the church as a whole.
We are also very active in our local community, working alongside other agencies and running our own projects in order to express the love of God in a practical way. On any given weekday the building is more likely to hold a debt appointment, an English class or a wellbeing café than a service.
We are a Baptist church and a member of the Evangelical Alliance, whose basis of faith we have adopted as our own.

The chapel
It is a red-brick Victorian Gothic chapel with honey-coloured stone dressings, a tall gable, and a row of pointed windows above the entrance. Across the stonework over the door, the words Baptist Chapel are still carved where the first congregation put them.
It sits in the middle of a parade of shops rather than behind a churchyard, which tells you something about how this church has always understood its job. Kettering Road has changed a great deal in a hundred and forty years. The welcome inside has not.

Safeguarding and governance
We take the safety of children and vulnerable adults seriously. Everyone working with them is DBS-checked, and the church has a designated Safeguarding Officer. Our working policies are published in full.
