We are very active in our local community, working alongside other agencies and running our own projects in order to express the love of God in a practical way. None of what follows requires you to believe anything, join anything, or come to a service.

  • Christians Against Poverty

    Mount Pleasant is home to the Northampton CAP Debt Centre. Christians Against Poverty has been running since 1996 and is one of the UK's leading debt counselling charities. The service is free and completely confidential.

    You start with a private conversation on the phone. From there, someone from the Northampton centre can visit you at home, so you never have to explain your situation in a waiting room. They will work with your creditors to stop them contacting you, taking the pressure off, and they will work out a budget with you.

  • Renew 147 — Wellbeing Café

    Renew 147 is a community-run wellbeing space built around the five ways to wellbeing: taking notice, getting active, being present, giving and learning. Everyone has struggles, and each of us needs to attend to our wellbeing.

    Come and try a hobby or activity, or simply sit with a drink and do nothing much at all. There is a quiet prayer area if you would like to use it, and no obligation to.

  • ESOL — English Conversation Class

    A friendly, informal class run by an experienced teacher and a team of volunteers. We work on speaking and listening, and build vocabulary and grammar along the way.

    Just as importantly, people make friends here and pick up the practical things that make life in the UK easier to navigate. A typical group is eight to ten students with two volunteers, so there is plenty of time to talk.

  • Eco Church

    We are registered with Eco Church, a scheme run by A Rocha, a Christian charity that works to protect the natural world. It sets out practical ways that Christians can care for God's earth.

    In a service in March 2026 the church decorated postcards asking our MPs to support the Climate and Nature Bill, which was written by scientists to address climate injustice and help restore our countryside. The children did the same the following Sunday — twenty-two postcards went to Parliament between us.

The Open Door Centre

Next door to the chapel, in the run of shops on Kettering Road, the Open Door Centre carries the same work out onto the pavement — part of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and the first door a lot of people come through.
